Symptoms and causes

What we repair on the Switch

Joy-Con with drift

The character walks on its own although nobody is touching the stick. The cause is wear in the analogue stick.

We replace the stick unit, or you use Nintendo's free repair, more on that further down.

No longer charges

First try the Nintendo power adapter and a different cable, and leave the console on power for a while, because with a completely flat battery it takes time before it responds again.

If that does not help, the fault is usually in the USB-C charging port or in the charging circuit on the motherboard, and the diagnosis clears that up.

Cracked screen

A crack in the glass, lines or a touchscreen that no longer responds. On the Lite the screen is fixed into the housing, so the work is different there.

The diagnosis shows whether only the glass or the whole screen needs replacing.

Game card not recognised

The Switch says no game card is inserted. Nintendo recommends cleaning the card with a soft, dry cloth and inserting it again.

If the console fails to recognise several cards, the card slot is usually faulty, and we replace it.

Loud fan or hot console

A fan that grinds or keeps revving up is often dusty or worn.

We clean it or fit a new one.

To be frank

Joy-Con drift, go to Nintendo first

We tell you this even though it costs us a job. In Switzerland Nintendo repairs Joy-Con with drift free of charge until further notice, even after the 24 month manufacturer's warranty has run out. You register the repair on Nintendo's support page and send in only the Joy-Con. On the Switch Lite the same applies to the built-in sticks, and there the whole console goes in.

Nintendo can refuse if the controller has already been opened or modified by someone else, if third-party accessories caused the damage or if it is damaged. So if you want to go that way, do not let anyone open the Joy-Con beforehand, not even us.

You come to us if the Joy-Con has already been opened or something else is broken besides the drift. The free drift repair does not cover the Pro Controller or the Joy-Con 2 of the Switch 2, where only the normal warranty applies.

Three steps

How the repair works

  1. Enquire

You pick your Switch and the problem above. With our reply you send it in by post or drop it off in Holziken by appointment. For a Joy-Con the controller on its own is enough.

  2. Diagnosis and fixed price

The diagnosis costs nothing. You get a fixed amount, and we tell you if Nintendo's free repair is the better route for you.

  3. Repair and return

Only after your OK do we repair, test everything and send the console or Joy-Con back to you.

Honest maths

When the repair is not worth it

Repairing a first generation Switch with a cracked screen and a weak battery can cost more than it is still worth second-hand. We tell you beforehand and, if you like, make you an offer for the faulty console.

Common questions

Does Nintendo repair Joy-Con drift for free?

Yes, in Switzerland until further notice, even after the warranty has run out, and on the Switch Lite for the built-in sticks too. Nintendo can refuse if the controller was opened by someone else beforehand or is damaged.

Is there a warranty on the repair?

Yes. The repair we carried out and the parts we fitted come with a 12 month warranty from the day the device is returned. New damage from drops or liquid and work by third parties are excluded. The details are on our warranty page.

When is a repair with you worth it?

When Nintendo is not an option because the Joy-Con has already been opened or something else is faulty besides the drift. And for everything that is not drift, such as the charging port, the screen or the card slot.

Why does my Switch no longer charge?

Often it is the cable, the power adapter or a completely flat battery that needs time on power. If that does not help, usually the charging port or the charging circuit on the motherboard is affected.

Which Switch do I have?

The model number is on the back. HAC-001 is the first Switch, HAC-001(-01) the version with longer battery life, HEG-001 the OLED, HDH-001 the Lite and BEE-001 the Switch 2.

Will I lose my saved games?

Your saves live on the console. Back them up first to the Nintendo Switch Online Save Data Cloud, because some repairs make a reset unavoidable. Take the microSD card out.

Do you also repair the Switch 2?

Yes. If you bought it new, Nintendo's manufacturer's warranty usually still applies, so best ask there first. For everything else the same process with a free diagnosis applies.
